Living in Yellowknife

Summer in the Blooming

I kid you not about 2 weeks ago the temperatures were dipping below 0 at night. No one was planting anything at that time but here we are just a short time later and it is +17 outside.

Over the weekend I saw many people out enjoying the weather. Many of gardens were being planted and many lawn trimmed. Although I had seen all this over the weekend I don’t think it really hit me that the weather had changed until this afternoon.

While out on my deck cooking a late lunch on the BBQ I was looking around the neighborhood taking in the heat of the sun. I noticed that something had changed. The trees. Our thin, fragile trees of the north had begun there summer change. It seems like over night there buds have exploded in to thick green, healthy looking leaves. Seeing that brought me to the realization that for the next 2 1/2 months we would be having comfortable weather.

Let summer start! Although there is still about 10 days until the official start of summer, I like to think summer is anything above +15.

I know my BBQ has been running for almost every meal these days! Now to get out in the boat!DSC_0100

  • I was walking home from work and saw the sign on YK Centre that said 24 degrees. I stopped and for the first time realized, Hey, I’m WARM outside! I had resigned myself to shivering forever. Lovely photos, btw.

  • I agree Kyle, I have been watching the trees on my walks at lunch to see if they have been letting their leaves loose and notice a big explosion today.
Watered the raspberries and noticed they too have some new growth. It’s taken longer it seems this year, but always worth it!
