Video Slideshow of the Royal Visit in 1970

The history of Yellowknife has always and will always fascinate me. I’m always looking to learn more, wherever I can find it.

Now we just had a royal couple visit Yellowknife over the summer of 2011 and we also had the Queen visit Yellowknife in the early 90’s, but I didn’t know they also visited in the 70’s.

The video’s description says HRH Elizabeth II, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles and Princess Anne came to Yellowknife on the occasion of the Centenary of the NWT. This makes sense

I’m not sure whose photos these were or where they came from, but I’m glad someone has put together this slideshow.

  • I remember seeing the queen in 1970, I remember my father test driving the 1970 caprice classic they used to drive her around in it still had the royal plate on it, however he bought a 1970 ford custom 500 from Frame&Perkins, I remember going fishing with my Dad instead of the barbeque at Frame Lake with Prince Charles and Princess Anne, but I see from the photos that a lot of my friends where there that night, awesome pictures

  • Was cool to see Dr Dotsenko. 🙂 Our neighbour living in the teacher res. He was a USSR scientist turned defector in the 60’s.

  • When the queen visited Yellowknife they stayed at the top of Frazier Towers/High Rise. My dad managed the building so we actually got to meet the queen. After she left my sisters an I slept in the queens bed. It was exciting for three little girls
