For the last couple days, the skies have been clear, sun bright, weather cold and massive sun dogs have appeared. They are spectacular to see in real life but we can’t always stop in the middle of the road and appreciate them. Even if you try to find a great place to see them, by the time you do the sun will have gone down. These sun dogs are something maybe not rare to come by, but a treat when they come out. Here in Yellowknife
Do you see the sun dog at some point in the last couple days? How often do sun dogs normally show up in Yellowknife?
wow – great photos Kyle. there’s some keepers there!

Very nice. I saw this from my office window two days after moving here. Quite the sight for my first few days!

Hey Kyle,
I am always amazed when I see these. I did see them this week but as you mention, it’s always when you’re out-n-about in your vehicle. By the time you pull over (or run home to get your camera) it’s usually too late! But they’re impressive no doubt. Great pics!

Besides the sun dogs, you also have a sun pillar (the vertical line), a tangent arc (the smudgy part at the top) and a faint 22 degree circle (the circle through the parhelia and the tangent arc).
