Yellowknife now has a greatest baker but it was not an easy road to find this person. First off the Long John Jamboree had to put in countless hours to devise the perfect plan for surfacing this person and then execute.
On Sunday, January 20, 2013 a lot, and when I say a lot I mean the Smoke House was at capacity, of Yellowknife best bakers showed up down in Ndilo to try to wow the judges with their homegrown baking.
Categories like Pies and Tarts, Cookies, Cupcakes, Cakes, Square, 12 and under and Specialties all had spectators drooling as more and more food kept arriving. From sweet to savoury and beautiful presentation to “it’s what is inside that counts”. However no one could touch anything until after the judges did their thing.
Winners from each category were then announced and moved onto the final round. The deciding round for who will be Yellowknife’s Greatest Baker.
Finally after what seemed like a hard job for those top judges I decision was made. Joanne Stassen was crowed Yellowknife’s Greatest Baker for her Lime Basil Macaroon.
Without a doubt it is very obvious that Yellowknife has a lot of talent when it comes to baking. And if someone wanted to open a cupcake shop here in town, I would not be opposed.
