Explorer Hotel

The Explorer Hotel is a staple on the Yellowknife skyline and is one of the prominent hotels in Yellowknife. It is only one block from Yellowknife’s main street, Franklin Avenue, and is perched up high on a hill, making for spectacular views.

With a modern interior, the Explorer Hotel is one of the largest hotels in Yellowknife and boasts rooms for different needs. From deluxe and superior single king-bed rooms to rooms with a double queen.

If that isn’t enough for you, the Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife also has very nice signature rooms. The King and The Aurora. The signature King suite is where Prince William and Kate Middleton stayed in 2011 during there time in Yellowknife, and the Aurora suite has been specifically designed for the best possible aurora viewing, right from the Explorer Hotel.

Beyond the room, the Explorer Hotel offers several other lovely amenities that will make your stay top-notch. The restaurant, Trader’s Grill, offers up some of the best food, including locally inspired dishes, while the lounge, Trapline Lounge, offers us a very cozy atmosphere and drinks.

Most, if not all, tour companies (aurora tours) will pick up guests at the Explorer Hotel on a regular basis.

Chateau Nova Hotel

The Chateau Nova is one of Yellowknife’s newest hotels and largest. Located just on the outskirts of Downtown Yellowknife, nestled by Niven Lake and its nature trail.

Rooms and amenities at the Chateau Nova are modern and comfortable with many different options for your pleasure. Even long-term temporary apartments are available.

The hotel also features a lounge, which is large and rarely full, and a restaurant called Quarry.

Super 8 Yellowknife

Super 8 Yellowknife is a modest hotel in the Range Lake area of Yellowknife. This is outside the downtown core in the opposite direction of Old Town. It is just off the main road called Old Airport Road and situated right between a Tim Hortons (donut and coffee shop) and Walmart (big box store).

If you are coming to Yellowknife to visit the hospital or for a shopping trip, Super 8 is a simple option. There is no restaurant at the hotel, but they do offer a basic breakfast. Copperhouse Eatery and Lounge, along with several fast-food joints are within walking area though.

Stanton Suites

Another lesser-known hotel in the Range Lake area off of Old Airport Road is the Stanton Suites. It is a mixed-use building with several long-term apartments and hotel rooms. Stanton Suites is right beside the hospital and a large grocery store. It is also very close to the Frame Lake trail system, with easy access to downtown Yellowknife.

Quality Inn

The Quality Inn is centrally located right in Yellowknife’s downtown core, close to many shops and restaurants. It is located less than a block away from Franklin Avenue, the main street of Yellowknife, which also leads into the historic Old Town.

The building itself is part of a small mall that has been around for many years. The rooms have been updated, and while it no longer has a restaurant there are many close by for your enjoyment.

Days Inn and Suites

If you want to stay directly between downtown Yellowknife and Old town Yellowknife, the Days Inn and Suites is the place. It is located at the top of the hill into the historic Old Town.

While the current status of their in-house restaurant is unknown, it is however close enough to both downtown Yellowknife restaurants and Old Town restaurants that you could walk to either with little effort.
