Yellowknife Fire Ban Information Summer 2012

Current Status: Effective Thursday, June 28th, 2012, the Open Air Fire Ban has been lifted.

I will update this post throughout the summer on the status of the Fire Band.

Due to the extremely warm weather and dry conditions a city wide open air fire ban has been put in place immediately.

Yellowknife seems to have been blessed with some extremely nice weather the past few days but that also comes with a curse. Forest Fires have been common in the area in the past and the bans are put in place to avoid any accidents.

This open air fire ban does include camp fires or fires within a pit.

Even when a ban is not in place precautions should always been taken. Ensure your fire in inclosed within an area to avoid it from spreading, make sure the the flames and sparks can not go near any surround objects like trees or tents and also check the embers before leaving. If they are to hot too pick up, they are too hot to leave.
