Yellowknifers love Facebook or that’s what my marketing hat tells me. Even since the early days of Facebook, Yellowknife has had a high number of users per capita. This isn’t a bad thing; it just tells me that Yellowknifers like to stay connected. To a hyper-specific level, Yellowknifers love their Facebook Groups and why not. They’re a great way to stay connected around certain interests, organizations or topics. And we really love our classified groups. Just look at them all.

As a part of How To Be a Yellowknifer we have tried to pull together a – somewhat – current list of Facebook Groups related to Yellowknife. For a newcomer, old timer or new parents, Facebook Groups appears to be a great way to connect and find information quickly and in a crowdsourced way.

  • Hi Kyle

Thanks so much for posting the YK Facebook Groups. I have another group category that you may with to add. Dance Groups, which you could classify with Sports and Physical Fitness. I think there are many and I believe most of them either have a blog or a Facebook site.
Cheers and looking forward to your sourdough bread in June.

  • Hi wondering if anyone can tell me some available camping spots in or around Yellowknife June 29th until July 4th, We have 2 30 foot trailers. 4 adults, 3 grandchildren and couple of dogs. My husband used to live there in the 1970s and would like us to see your beautiful community. Thanks I really appreciate your help.

    • Hi Kelly, there are 3 territorial campgrounds around Yellowknife. Fred Henne is right within the city limits on the shores of Long Lake and 5 minutes from downtown Yellowknife. Prelude Lake Territorial Campground is about 30 minutes down the Ingraham Trail (outside of Yellowknife) and Reid Lake Territorial Campground is 60 minutes down the Ingraham Trail. To experience Yellowknife your best bet might be Fred Henne, but note you’re coming over a holiday and the campgrounds may already be busy. Please check out
