Yellowknife Acronym Guide

Every community, every Government, every business and every organization seems to have their own set of acronyms to abbreviate common names and terms. Yellowknife is no different. Just like how many Yellowknife’s have a special way of giving directions (see our local direction dictionary here), we also have a long list of acronyms we like to use.

Through the How To Be a Yellowknifer program we have put together a list of what we believe to be the most commonly used acronyms. We have omitted many that we can across that were too business, industry or government specific to try and keep the list as general as possible and relevant to the widest group of people. That said, we do have a form at the bottom of this post where you can submit any missing acronyms or request a change of one already listed.

If you are interested in a physical copy of the Like a Local Language Guide, they are available in the How To Be a Yellowknifer Welcome Boxes.
