Everything Yellowknife

Winks, Macs, Husky, No Esso

You know Husky’s or was it Winks, or Macs? Well anyways, you know that gas station on the corner of Franklin Ave and Forest Dr. that never seems to have their gas pumps working? It is changing once again, this time maybe for the better. A bigger fueling company that was once in Yellowknife is back. Esso has taken on this “what seems to be cursed station” to try and gain back Yellowknifers.

The remains of the old Esso station can still be seen just beside the downtown Extra Foods parking lot. It has been around 10 years since the station was torn down and an environmental clean up was done.

The signs at the new Macs/Esso only went up yesterday. The new fuel price sign is a big improvement from the old manual one. It is unsure as to when the pumps will be fixed and operational again but it can’t be to long from now as I’m sure they would want to get everything going as soon as possible.

It is tough to say if they will do well or not, or if they will just keep the same level of traffic as they normally have. With Shell knocking off 3.5 cents on every liter and Co-op with their yearly rebate and then all the Cardlocks around town how do you think they will do?

  • Esso has a loyalty program also.

The good thing is that Esso’s environmental record has been good as of late and it should be a clean area (I hope this carries over to this location)

And let’s hope they can keep the pumps running!
