Yellowknife is a small city with a big-city vibe. Throughout the city, you will find all the normal amenities you would find in any other city. There are a few different grocery shopping options, cell phone providers, big box stores and so on. Generally, Yellowknife has everything a person needs to live a very normal life.

If you would like to see more about the food costs in Yellowknife see an article I did in 2009 here. There may be some differences today but not many.
Yellowknife is a strange place when it comes to gas prices. In a place that is as isolated you would expect the prices to fluctuate quite often but for the longest time, it stayed at $1.349. It has now started to fluctuate.
Lately gas prices have been hovering around $1.19.
What many residents do however is get card-lock accounts. Several petroleum companies in Yellowknife offer these, such as Petro-Canada and Shell.
