Mix 100 CJCD Launches New Website

I nearly jumped off my seat when I saw the message from one of the announcers of the local radio station. For the longest time I haven’t thought to highly of their site, but understood there were many factors to why it was so out dated. I’m in awe at how they didn’t say they were coming out with a new site, although I think Paul, the morning host, has been dropping hints for a while. Never the less it is here, and I am excited!

At first glance it looks very slick and professional. A rotating image of hot artistes and bands is what caught my eye first and then the station logo. A nice easy to use navigation is just above that at the top of the page. Going through all the different sections you’ll find all the information you need about the station. Everything from Announcers Bios to contest info. They have also updated their news and sports page, it now no longer pops out into a different window. The only thing I couldn’t find was a RSS feed, although there must be somewhere. They did add a “Share This” button for readers to share the news within their social circle. I’m not sure how the Events page will work as there is nothing on the page yet and the Radio Marketing if for those wanting to advertise on the radio. Back on the homepage they have eight fancy looking image/buttons that take you throughout the site. One being for Mix 100 Cool Club, which will apparently keep us up-to-date about events and concerts. I am presuming it will be a e-mail newsletter type of deal, although I can’t be sure until I get the first update.

The last two things I want to talk about are the two things that excite me the most and what I have always pushed for. CJCD now is on Twitter at CJCD_Mix100 and they are now streaming radio live from their website. Twitter for a radio station is a wonderful tool, I follow a couple from out-of-town and have seen the benefits of having it. It is another way for listeners to interact with announcers live, as well it allows announcers to send out messages. Messages like teasers, contest details, and news. Online radio is quickly becoming more and more popular for those who obviously don’t have access to a radio. It now allows us the listeners to take CJCD with us anywhere we go. I could go on and on like the fan boy I am but I wont. What I will do though is send you to their brand new website at CJCD.ca. Go now.

Yellowknifers, what are your thoughts on their new website. Do you plan on going to it more often now? Let everyone know in the comments.

  • about frickin’ time. boo on them for having a company out of kelowna do their website tho, i know at least one local entrepreneur who could have done a much better job ;). i don’t care who owns the company, shop local. it’s just a template website with their info slapped in. put together in half a day no doubt. and streaming using ustream. that’s kinda cool. if they started playing good music i might actually listen to the station.

  • Much better than their old site for sure. Wish they had streaming audio though… I only listen to radio online these days. I agree with Amys comment about shopping North too!

  • But they do have live streaming. I’m so happy. I can now listen to local radio while preparing my day’s work. I’m also psyched that the news stories are fresh. I hate having to wait 2 days for news that is happening now.

  • Funny that they wouldn’t shop local, after the nauseating amount of “keep Xmas in your town” propaganda they aired over the holidays.

I’m not going to see the new site, any more than I saw the old, because I don’t care. And I wouldn’t even listen to them if they played better music, because their hosts annoy the expletive out of me.

What I think would be good for the radio scene up here is if we got a CBC Radio 2 transmitter. CBC Radio 2 used to be awesome when I lived in Alberta.

  • while I too would like to do all business purchases local, sometimes you’re forced out of town. CJCD is part of a bigger media conglomerate and was probably forced to use the same design to conform. Just my 2 cents

  • I agree with Hughie, I think the company that owns it wanted all thier sites to follow a similar design layout, so CJCD itself probably didn’t have much imput on who was to build it.

I am very happy they are streaming live as I was unable to listen to them at work before. The site looks pretty slick in general, and I am sure it will come along once all the kinks are worked out.

  • Their website appears to be broken as of 11:21 am, Wednesday, February 17, 2010…

There is an empty page with only the words that say:

    “It works!”

    Well, it is not working…

  • so, on the drive in to work this morning, i heard an ad for something called hqyellowknife.com on cjcd. This intrigued me because it seemed to be a copycat of what you are doing here kyle. i went and checked it out, only to find that the site is designed by the same company that built the new cjcd site in kelowna. i need to learn more about this “media conglomerate”….

  • no, i’m surprised that they’ve got classifieds, especially after ykclassifieds.com tanked.
They may have bitten off more than they can chew, but it’s an interesting concept. Certainly competition for ykonline, CBC, NNSL, and yktrader.
I did sign up for an account and found that their form shows hq grande prairie and that the weather is wrong for yellowknife

  • @amsiebee The day their site was launched I started hearing the ad, although I didn’t say anything, and like you found Vista is behind it or at least the domain. Someone else and Hughie above pointed out that when it comes to News & Classifieds they are up against YkTrader and CBC/NNSL. The one thing they would be up against me with is the events, but then again I seem to have a more personal touch.
The woman who is putting up all the information, I think, is in Grand Prairie.

  • They should play some of their tunes. Saw ’em play Le Frolic. One tune was like 45 minutes long! It was insane. GOTAS or GOMAS… sumthin’ like that.
