Freak Hail Thunderstorm

Earlier this evening Yellowknife experienced one of it freak thunderstorms. Yes we might have all been expecting it, but right up to the time it started to rain, it was sunny and quite hot. As I was sitting on my deck soaking up the sun and heat after supper I didn’t even realize there were dark clouds on the other side of the house. Then bam, it was here.

The rain start coming down, and down, and down, harder, faster, stronger. The loud thunder started to crack as the storm moved over head. Hail then began to fall the size of pebbles with the occasional gravel sized ones. The temperature had dropped 12 degrees and the lightning was striking all around.

Then as if it had never happened it stopped. The hail melted and the sky started to clear. Check out some quick photos I captured during the storm.
