Ice Bloggers NWT | Ep.1: Worst Christmas

I don’t know if many remember, but when some of the bloggers saw the trailer for Ice Pilots NWT we thought it would be funny to make a parody video. Once our trailer was out and so were the first few episodes of Ice Pilots NWT, we got together again to film the first episode of Ice Bloggers NWT. If you follow the show you will be able to see what lines we used. Most of the our first episode is just a parody of a couple Ice Pilots episodes.

It was good fun make as well as interesting… We plan on making more but don’t know when. As you can tell this episode was filmed before Christmas but I only got around to getting it out now.

Ice Pilots on for Second Season!

Ice Pilots NWT just announced it will be airing for a second season. The hit reality show featuring Northern Pilots has become the History Channels highest rated show, beating out Ice Road Truckers.

Some Yellowknife residents may have noticed that they are indeed already filming the second season. I have seen some tweets about it:

I have not written about the show since before it had even aired. During that time I may have been a little harsh on what I thought the show might be. After seeing some of the episodes and the effort the team is making over the Social Networking sites I think they are really doing well.

Before the show aired, I thought it would be over exaggerated and fake. Being from the north, I don’t like when that happens. Thankfully it has been a pretty decent show, and definitely a hit among Yellowknife residents. It is always fun seeing your home town being featured in a TV show. Working with any kind of machinery in the -30 to -40 weather can be a pain, so kudos to the pilots and ground crew that not only work in it, but also fly in it.

Animated Yellowknife Airport

I thought this was a neat find this morning. As I was watching some old YkOnline videos I noticed this one in the related section. It appears to be an animated tour of the Yellowknife Airport. Starting on the tarmac and ending in the parking lot. At first I thought this may have something to do with Buffalo Airway’s reality TV show, Ice Pilots NWT, but as they only briefly showed Buffalo’s hanger I was lead to believe it was not. I am very impressed with the detail of the video and how correct it has in the placement of all the building and structures. It was only posted on the 22 of December so it might be as recent as this past fall. If anyone watches it works at the airport, I loved to know how precise they are with the placement of things in the video. Or if anyone know of why this video was made, leave a comment below.

Ice Bloggers NWT – Preview

When the NWT bloggers (including myself) saw the preview of Ice Pilots NWT, we though “We could do something like that”. So a dream was born and shortly after we all got together on a Sunday afternoon to film the Trailer Video. So here it is on the launch day of Ice Pilots NWT, the Ice Blogger of the NWT.

Credit goes to John and Megan for the idea. In the video Jason, Nancy, Megan, Michael, Karen and myself. Our hope is to make a bit of a web series out of it, with a monthly show starting sometime in January 2010.

Let us know what you think.

A Look in to Buffalo Airways

I just came across this video about Buffalo Airways. It is a little more down to earth than the Ice Pilots NWT, and I think it give us a short glimpse of what goes on within the walls of the hanger. It is nice to see Buffalo Joe being portrayed as an aviation historian, rather then the toughest boss this side of Yellowknife. Take a look.

Ice Pilots NWT – Another Reality Show

We all remember Ice Road Truckers, and probably wont forget it. Every time we run into someone from the south it is always “Do you the Ice Road Truckers, isn’t that show great”. When in actual reality we know that the show was exaggerated because there is no way trucks would be driven on that ice if there was the risk that is portrayed in the show.

Well the History Channel is back at it again, this time with a new industry to exaggerated. Don’t get me wrong though, I do enjoy watching these shows and I’m sure it brings tourism and publicity to the north. But I can’t help pointing out that somethings in these show, like many reality shows, are just not true.

The new show will be spotlighting Buffalo Airways and will be called Ice Pilots NWT. They were filming here in Yellowknife over last winter and is set to premier November 18 at 10pm ET. The show will be focusing on Buffalo Airways operations, personal (including the infamous Buffalo Joe) and of course the retro Douglas DC-3′s. I have included the trailer below.

Now I’m curious to your thoughts on these shows. I think it is clear how I feel about them above, do you agree? Or Disagree? What are some of the benefits of having these shows up here in Yellowknife? and the Cons?  Would you ever sell out for a TV deal?
