What’s Happening

The 2nd annual “Freezin’ for a Reason” – LETR Polar Plunge will be taking place this Saturday at the Long Lake Boat Launch. From the brochure: Hearty souls with warm hearts will once again brace the chilly waters of Long Lake to raise money for Special Olympics – NWT. Take the plunge and ask your family, friends and co-workers to support you or be a Team Captain and form your own team of plungers (hehe plungers..) who will join you. Proceeds from this chillingly fun event will go to support training, athletic events and competitions for Special Olympic Athletes in the Northwest Territories.

How to Participate

This is the easy, not to mention warmer, part. There are two ways to take part, 1) be a Plunger and 2) an Event Supporter (or a To Chicken to Plunger).  To take part as a plunger, print and fill out the Entry and Waiver Form linked here and collect donations using the donation form included in the PDF. Then once you’ve done that, you’ll need to get your duckies and get ready to plunge. Those who raise more than $100.00 will be receive a “Freezin’ for a Reason” beach towel. Details on how to submit the form are on the forms.

Schedule

  • Registration & Donation Submission 11am – 12pm
  • Plunge 12pm – 12:30pm
  • Post Plunge Party and Awards 12:30pm – 1:30pm

This is a special event and a worthwhile one. It is not often you will see people, jumping in to, literally, ice-cold water in support of others. I have to be honest and say that I wouldn’t be able to build up the courage to take the plunge, so to those who do, thank-you.
