UPDATE: When the Power goes out in Yellowknife

UPDATE: CBC North has reported that the power outage that occurred during the evening of February 13, 2012 was caused by a Military Helicopter striking a power line. No one was hurt, but the helicopter was damaged.

Power Outages are no surprise in Yellowknife, they have been happening for years. Whether it is a squirrel or a raven causing them, they have just always happened.

Oddly enough they always seem to happen in the evenings (not always, but most of the time), when everyone is home and at their computers.

Then as soon as it happens we all get in a tizzy and use our phones to complain about it on Twitter and Facebook. I have decided not to complain anymore. Instead I want to make the best of the dark, piece and quiet.

This time around, I stoked the fire making sure the house stayed warm and then headed outside. Although the streets around my house were very dark, some grids were still on and the light coming from them made for some cool photos.
