Heritage week is upon us and I reflect back on what Heritage Week means to me. I was in Grade 7, so not THAT long ago and it was time for us to do a heritage project. I did mine on the people of Bathurst Inlet. Who they were, how they lived. Fascinating stuff about their culture.
Once our projects were complete, we would then go through the ranks. First was the school level, then the city wide and finally was the territorial. All levels had judges come around and talk to us about our projects and at the territorial level we even had to give a presentation. That was the scary part because only three projects were chosen to go to the nationals out of about 15. I was one. I was honoured and hope I represented my city, territory and the people of Bathurst Inlet well, while in Sudbury, Ont.
