YkOnline “Be Heard” Contest

Please watch the video first.

How the contest works: You sign up to YkOnline, sign in and write. Your submission is your entry into the draw. If you do not want to sign up you can simply send my your entry via e-mail to kyle(at)ykonline(dot)ca

Write about what? As the 2009 city election is right around the corner I thought this would be a perfect opportunity for people of Yellowknife to voice their concerns as well as ideas, reasoning, who they are voting for and why, etc. You can write about what you want the new council to focus on as well as what you think they need to improve. Write about what is important to you.

Deadline: The deadline to have entries submitted will be October 16th, 2009 at 12pm Mountain Time. All submitted entries will be published before October 19, 2009

Contest Draw & Prize: Shortly after the deadline I will gather all the names of the people who submitted entries and randomly draw a winner. Please make sure you use a valid e-mail account. The prize will be a Gift Certificate to a local business but has not been decided yet (will update when decided).

Make sure you spread the word around town so everyone has the opportunity to Be Heard

If you have any question, comments or concerns please leave a comment below or contact me through the Contact Page.

*Disclaimer: YkOnline reserves the write to not publish and remove any entry it feels necessary. This contest is not a place to rant, so please no negative entries. 1. Downtown revitalisation – that’s a main concern, I think, since I walk around down there all the time & I want to see incentives & support to make it green & liveable & pleasant to be in/at.

And all kinds of recycling & alternative energy…come ON, get ON with it already!

  2. I meant my post to be a comment here! To recap briefly:

    1. Wifi for all. The internet is infrastructure. Let’s have blanket city-wide coverage.

    2. Environment. I want to recycle everything with the recycle symbol on it.

    3. Lively Downtown Core. Urban planning to increase residential density and a vibrant streetscape.

    4. Incentives for businesses who do business in such a way that they benefit the community and the planet. Case in point: Swap Shop – profitable to the owners (I hope), good for the planet (recycles furniture), good for people (affordable, quality furniture)

    5. Open Data. Every study on any gov’t shelf has been paid for by the taxpayers. Let’s digitize them and give access to the public who essentially commissioned them.
