The Youth Photovoice Camp started Monday, what is it you ask? Well is all about empowering the youth of Yellowknife, they will be able to go around town with a camera documenting personal and social issues. While the youth are out exploring Yellowknife, organizers David Buchanan and Marty Mako will also be documenting the camp with video.
They plan to edit the film and show it to the public at the Capital Theatre. No date is set in stone yet but could possibly be around August 7th. The photos that will be taken by the youth may also be posted online for public viewing but will depend on whether or not the youth are comfortable with that.
The camp which runs for 2 weeks and has 2 intakes. One July 13 (yesterday) and July 27. They generally meet 11 – 11:30 at The Diner for breakfast and a little socializing and then move over to the Aurora College – who generously donated space and computers for the camp. The day normally ends between 2pm to 3pm depending on when all the photos get uploaded to the computers. They really want to emphasize that this is not suppose to be a labour intense camp, and is meant to be fun.
